Deloitte’s commitment to being a responsible business is a key leadership priority. In FY18, the firm was proud to have invested $25.6m in its communities through pro bono work and donations, as well as hands-on and skilled volunteering. This community investment is achieved in large part, through working strategically with our national community partners and, in particular, our strong connection with Oxfam Australia.
Deloitte Australia has a rigorous program of national community partnerships. These partnerships are at the heart of the firm’s corporate social responsibility agenda. Deloitte works closely and in depth with each of these not for profit organisations on a local and national basis. While each partnership may be seen as one overarching initiative, they are made up of many separate but interlinked initiatives to form a kind of social impact ecosystem that becomes far more than the sum of its parts.
Deloitte’s longest standing national community partner is Oxfam Australia. Oxfam Australia is the local arm of Oxfam International, the EUR 1 billion international confederation operating across 90 countries to fight for a just world without poverty. In FY 2018, Oxfam Australia directly reached more than 1.7 million people in 29 countries. In partnership with its affiliates, Oxfam reached 13.1 million people affected by disaster or conflict worldwide.
In 2019, Deloitte is celebrating its 20th anniversary of making an impact that matters with Oxfam Australia. Since 1999, Deloitte has collaborated closely with the not-for-profit organisation in the development and humanitarian sector to make a positive and enduring impact through Oxfam’s mission to create a just world without poverty. The structure and depth of this two-decade relationship has resulted in an impressive track-record of social impact achievements ranging from fundraising millions of dollars to upskilling people in disadvantaged communities. This relationship is a shining example of Deloitte’s explicitly purpose-led culture.
Deloitte’s 20-year National Community Partnership with Oxfam Australia is designed to enable the firm and its people to gain knowledge about and connection to the importance of solving major global problems. This aligns with Deloitte’s purpose to make an impact that matters in our communities. The firm believes its people are enriched by having a purpose beyond profits.
Deloitte’s 20-year partnership with Oxfam has progressed ever more successfully each year since 1999. The CEO of Oxfam Dr Helen Szoke attributes the success of the partnership to the sense of purpose and shared values held by each organisation. It is a connection based on deep relationships. “The partnership with Deloitte is absolutely integral to our work. It’s been a long partnership, a happy marriage,” says Dr Helen Szoke AO Chief Executive, Oxfam Australia.
