IES (Intelligent Software Engineering Services) is an organisation within Accenture Technology with over 1750 employees from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Russia. The need for a new cultural impulse inspired the IES to start a Culture Change Program to improve the retention, recruiting and onboarding numbers. A company where the best software developers want to work, go their own way and be a team with shared values. The Culture Change Program was conducted by the Change Management Unit for I.T. Transformation in Accenture at IES.
Before implementing the Culture Change Program, an employee survey was conducted to obtain a baseline of the corporate culture. Afterwards, the core values and the manifesto were defined in leadership workshops and brought into the company via change agents. The change measures were then successfully implemented. The whole project was conducted in an agile approach with sprint phases.
The Culture Change Program comprises six overarching measures: Definition of core values + manifest, community engagements like the implementation of community summits with innovative formats, a flexible career model for more freedom of development, open & transparent communication, virtual collaboration and promoting innovation through various campaigns. These initiative measures have all been successfully implemented and have contributed to the program’s ongoing effectiveness.
The Culture Change program has existed since September 1st 2019, and is an ongoing process today. It started with the entire IES Leadership Team developing and defining core values and a manifesto IES Accenture now lives by. The introduction of the Culture Change Program has increased the number of employees from 1,500 (September 2019) to 1,750 (July 2020).
